This course offers the opportunity for students to learn the basic fundamentals of tone production, rhythmic concepts, proper articulation, and the performance of medium level band literature. Participation in marching band, band camp, and/or other related band activities is a requirement of this course.

The main focus of Concert Band is on the directed development of musical and technical skills. These skills will provide the foundation upon which continued instrumental music instruction will be based. Through classroom instruction and public performances, each student will develop instrument mechanics through learning of scales, gain rhythmic understanding through a standardized counting system, and expand their interpretive skills via the literature studied. Auditioning for All-District Band and All-Virginia Band (if eligible) are strongly recommended, but not required for this course.
