In this course, advanced instruction in individual and group performance is stressed. The Symphonic Band represents the school in concerts, festivals, parades, football games, and other school-related activities. Participation in marching band, band camp, and/or related band activities is a requirement of this course. Prerequisite: audition.

The main focus of Symphonic Band is on the continued refinement of musical and technical skills. As one of the top performing ensembles in the school, students are expected to consistently work to develop their skills to the fullest. Through classroom instruction and public performances, each student will continue to refine instrument mechanics, improve rhythmic understanding, and develop interpretational skills. Auditioning for All-District Band and All-Virginia Band (if eligible) are strong recommended, but not required for this course.
