This course offers small group instruction in the percussion family. Participation in marching band, band camp, and/or other related band activities is a requirement of this course.

This course is open to all percussion students within the band program. The main focus of Percussion Class is on the development of skills on every instrument within the percussion family. Percussion Ensemble literature will be introduced and rehearsed during the second semester, whereas the first semester focuses on marching percussion; concert percussion is practiced throughout the entire year. Students will participate in each concert, and parts will be assigned based upon need and development. Through classroom instruction and public performances, each student will gain an understanding of percussion technique, music reading, rhythmic understanding, and interpretative skills. Auditioning for All-District Band and All-Virginia Band (if eligible) are strong recommended, but not required for this course.
